The First Day of School

Image
Well our Bruce had his first session of dog training last night and let me just tell you I am so proud of our big boy! Don't get me wrong, he needs some work when it comes to his recent learned talent of barking at little yappy dogs that bark at him. I can't blame him though. Those little dogs always bark at him first man!! Initially Bruce was barked at and lunged at by a few small dogs with "small man complex" so he sat back and barked back a few times. In this instance its good that Bruce has the attention span of a fruit fly because he quickly realized that there were a lot of other things to check out, like beef bones and treats and the puddle of pee at the end of the aisle. The fruit fly attention span does not work in our favor when teaching Bruce the 1st three commands for the class. "Watch me" "Jump Start Come" "Sit" I mean wouldn't you find it hard to watch a boring old human when there is a potential for acquiring a

Faithful Devotion

"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion." -Anonymous   It's Thursday, it's only 2:00 in the afternoon and it's been one of those days. I just want to go home and snuggle with Bruce and do nothing else. Since I'm feeling a little blue I'm going to get a wee bit deep.   Life can be frustrating and people can be just down right annoying. There's something about seeing your dog patiently waiting for you that makes it all go away. There's something about a slobbery, dog kiss that makes it vanish. There's something about a walk with your dog that makes it all a lot simpler.   With that being said, leave the crappy part of your day at the front door, take a deep breath and then snuggle or go for a walk. Strive to always be worthy of your dog's devotion. Hi

The Big Brat!

Image
Bruce has been a BIG BRAT the last couple days. He won't lay on his mat, he ignores my calls unless food is being offered, and he stands next to the bed and pouts to see if I will let him on the bed. BossMan and I believe this has something to do with our new little roommate.... Courtesy of Sabrina Pryce iPhone Photography! His name is Rodgers and he is our human roomates' new dog. Now you see Rodgers is a very sweet boy who loves people, loves treats and who was supposed to love other dogs. He might like other dogs but he has a real problem with Bruce the moose. We really can't blame him. Bruce IS a bit intimidating to most dogs BUT once a dog gets to know him he or she quickly realizes he poses absolutely no threat (he really is a joke of a dog). However, every time Bruce gets in his way, looks at him funny, gets up on "his" couch, smells his dilly dally, takes a breath or walks into a room Rodgers is on little-dog-with-small-man-complex attack missio

He's Going the Distance

Image
Ladies and Gentlemen! It is official... I signed Bruce's ass up for dog training classes! It's time to put our smart dog to work and to give him some mental stimulation. He knows the basics but I want him to go the distance with the goal of passing the Canine Good Citizen test. We believe in him like any proud parents would! Are you ready Brucey? Wish us luck for we will need it! Only because classes are from 7-8pm every Monday and that is way passed my bedtime and most definitely past Bruce's. We'll keep you posted on our progress Happy Friday!! Petco Dog Training Classes $109.95 for a 6 week class (Puppy 1, Puppy 2, Adult 1, Adult 2, and AKC CGC Course)

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

Image
So how is Bruce feeling about the recent changes in our home? Is he sad? Is he feeling lonely? Does he feel like his heart has been ripped out of his body and thrown in his face? Not likely! BossMan and I are pretty sure that Bruce is thrilled to be the only dog in the house again. Let's be honest, Mindy kind of stole the show and while Bruce allowed it and was gracious about it (not like he had a choice) he sure is glad to be the center of attention again. Ok, he acts like we didn't give him any attention when he was a co-canine. Don't let him tell you such nonsense! We gave him lots of loves! We let him on the bed for Pete's sake, which we swore we would never do. It's my honest opinion that we babied him even more than normal when Mindy was here and I'm sticking to it! I do give him credit. He was the most gracious of hosts. He put up with a lot. You see, our sweetheart Mindy was a bit of a diva, an attention hog, a stealer of bones. Her sweet amber eye

Good News

Our sweet, wiggle butt, kissy girl was adopted on Saturday to the absolute perfect home! It of course is bitter sweet to say goodbye to Mindy. I was so sad to walk away from those amazing amber eyes but so so so happy that she now has a forever home. I, being the weakling that I am, totally cried behind my sunglasses. These were tears of sadness but of course joy. I can only guess how spoiled she is going to be by her new human. Two walks a day, snuggles on the bed, treats, treats and more treats. BossMan and I really bonded with her and her little quirks. I think we are going to miss her wiggle butt the most. Any time we asked her how she was doing or what her day was like she would wiggle that butt to no end. Sometimes we were scared that she would break that tail of hers or a nearby glass on the coffee table. Her enthusiasm in general will be missed in our home. A lesson from Mindy: You can make a house a home as long as you put your heart into it. Our house seems like it is
