Lola Is Up For Adoption!

Image
Meet Lola... the sweetest girl you'll meet. She has lots of energy when she needs to and will curl up and snuggle when it clearly time for a nap. She is ready to please at all times. She loves exploring and going on long walks. She is great on the leash and is always very attentive to her walker. She's not the biggest fan of small dogs but dogs her own size and bigger she loves to play with and play she does! She will need daily walks and will need to have lots of her own toys to entertain her. Her favorite toys are tennis balls, a treat-filled Kong and a Nylabone! This good girl is completely crate trained and will go in her crate with no fuss. She would appreciate a treat for her troubles though! We recommend crating her if she will be in the house by herself. Someone's ready for a walk!   Snuggle time with foster bro!

Why Adopt?

This Crazy Dog Lady is going to bring a little controversy into your Friday. I'm going help you understand why I am the Crazy Dog Lady and not just the Dog Lady. I'm going to write about something that I am very passionate about but I usually keep it quiet since it can piss people off. I understand that not everyone agrees with me and that is completely fine. We all have our opinions and beliefs. I just hope that by getting this out it might inspire a few people to change their minds or future actions. For us dog people, there is almost nothing better than bringing home a puppy, going to the pet store and getting him everything he needs to set him up in his new home. He is cute and cuddly. He is a big ball of adorable energy. His family just can't handle all of the cuteness. Then he starts growing into his big floppy ears and starts getting bigger. It gets harder to give him as much attention as they used to and walks with him become less common. They are just busy &quo

Good to Know

Well I learned something new about Bruce on Monday night, during dog training. He's a spaz... oh wait I already knew that! BUT the reason, according to the trainer, is he is a dominant dog. Oh no! The horror! When the trainer told me this I was shocked! I mean, our Bruce. Dominant. Our Bruce, the biggest baby and mommas boy, dominant? How is that possible? So I decided to do some research on what that really means. And before anyone freaks out... dominant does not mean aggressive or an alpha. Here are some interesting things I found out about the type of dominant dog Bruce is during my little research sesh... Again, Dominance does not mean aggression. Actually, a lot of times a bite and attack comes from a dog being uncomfortable and nervous, not dominant. Wanting to be ahead during walks and not letting go of toys are 2 signs of dominance that Bruce shows. A dog can be dominant in some situations but not dominant in other situations. Let me re-phrase, a dominant dog does

Meet Lola, our new foster girl! It's been a month and a half since we sent Mindy off to her forever home. While we appreciated our time with just Bruce since then, we knew there was still a big need for foster homes for these pups. And as usual, things just kind of fell into place like they were meant to be. Our amazing connection with the rescue group let us know about a sweet pittie girl that needed some help. I was all over it but just needed to "convince" BossMan. Hahaha "convince" is not the right word but you get the idea! We were all introduced to Lola 2 days ago, just over 12 hours from getting home from our big road trip. I think I was numb from lack of sleep but Lola was just what the doctor ordered. She brings an instant smile to whoever encounters her. She will warm your heart in 10 seconds flat with her stocky little build, wiggly butt and smile. The best part is that Lola and Bruce dig each other. Well actually... Lola REALLY loves Bruce a

Finally Home!

Gaaaa! We are finally home from our road trip! We hit a little bit of a snag in our travels home and ended up stuck in Richfield, Utah for 3 nights. BossMan's beloved truck decided to act up and extend our vacation. Bruce adapted nicely to the KOA we ended up staying at and I'm pretty sure he would have made that place home if he needed to. I was starting to think we were going to HAVE to call it home, as scary as that is to think about. P.S. If you followed the link from Facebook or Pinterest click HERE first and read the previous posts about our trip to Colorado. Any who, here are the pictures and such from our trip! On the Road Again

We are now on our way back home minus Bruce's grandma who is flying out to Missouri to visit family. Bruce misses having two options on laps to lay on. He will have to just get used to his mat. Right now Bruce is sleeping like a baby next to me and I didn't even have to give him a Benadryl. He might actually be getting the hang of this car riding business. He might be adjusting but I'm fairly certain he's ready to be home and in his own environment.  Nevertheless, we are very proud of him! Pictures will be posted when we get home!

Bruce in Colorado

Since the horse incident of 2013 as I am going to call it, Bruce wasn't going to be off the leash that much, if at all. He was at our sides most of the time for this trip All the drama died down and we were ready to party with family and friends. And so was our Brucey. There were lots of dogs for him to meet. His fur cousin Elma really loved him and so did all the other dogs. We feel really lucky that Bruce is so great with other dogs. Horses no. Dogs yes. He also got to meet some two-legged little and big humans who he really enjoyed him as well. And of course, everyone loved him once they realized he wasn't going to maul their faces off. You know, like a typical bully breed, right? Yeah we still came across a few people that were wary of him and one person straight out told me he would "never get a dog like that". I've learned to just brush it off and keep helping Bruce be a good ambassador for his kind. It's hard work but all worth it to keep educating peop

Our Grand Entrance

We made it to Salida and to my aunt and uncles gorgeous house in the San Isabel National Forest. We made it before dark and more than ready for a beer. We all hopped out of the truck and were greeted with lots of hugs! In the midst of all of this and dog introductions I made the very unwise decision to let Bruce off of his leash. Not my best move.  Bruce made a b-line for the two horses in their enclosure, proceeding to chase them, nip at them and herd them around said enclosure. If it only ended like that. If only horses had a better sense of humor. If only horses didn't know how to kick ass or kick anything else for that matter. If only Bruce decided that listening to me when I call (scream and yell and cry for) him was in his best interest.  Lets just say I was SLIGHTLY an emotional wreck but we got "Mr. Badass" out of the pasture with only minor scrapes and bruises.  It's honestly the hardest thing for me to think about what could have happened. We

Almost There

Well we've spent over 15 hours on the road to Colorado and we probably have 4 or 5 more to go.  We are so close to Salida, CO that I can't stand it! Bruce is ready also. I'll give you a run down on Bruce's car performance.  Since Bruce is not the lovely ray of sunshine that many dogs are in the morning you can just imagine how he felt when my alarm went off at 3:50am Wednesday morning. He wasn't thrilled. He must get that from his daddy.  Slightly confused and completely groggy, we loaded him up in the cab of the truck along with a blanky and we set off for the open road. Since he was half awake he found it easy to fall asleep partially on my lap. It doesn't end there. Have I mentioned that Bruce can be a bit of a spaz? Only a tiny bit. Ok, I kid. He is a big spaz who can be such a nervous nelly I contemplated sedating him a wee bit for this trip. I didn't because we were going into high altitudes and I didn't want his big ol' heart to stop. So anywa

Colorado Here We Come!

Bruce, BossMan and I are heading out to Colorado tomorrow to visit family! We are also bringing along Bruce's Grandma and Grandpa (my Mom and Step-dad) with us! I'm pretty sure that Bruce knows something is up because the big trailer is sitting in front of our house and it's hard to miss. The trailer is our home away from home and Bruce was finally able to check it out this weekend when BossMan brought it home for cleaning and inspection. Bruce performed his own inspection. Couches are comfy. Beds are comfy. Air conditioning is heaven on earth. All is good. Bruce gives the trailer 2 paws up and ready for action. Our Humble Abode on the Road    Preparation: I started out by making a packing list for Bruce and BossMan and myself. I'm not really sure how the heck Bruce's packing list is longer than ours but it is indeed. This is another example of being completely obsessed with our fur baby. We are totally sick in the head but admission is the first step,
